Google Photos as part of Google Drive

If you want to manage your pictures and videos via Google drives folder structure and file manager. This is also part of the steps for uploading videos from Google Drive to YouTube.

Open Chrome

Go to your Google Drive

You can get to your Google Drive from your list of Apps (red arrow) or by typing drive.google.com into the address bar at the top.

You may be asked to log in; the credentials are the same as for your Gmail. You can see that I'm already logged in by my name and picture (circled in red).

Settings Menu

  1. Click on the gear icon at the top right
  2. Choose "Settings" from the drop down menu

Create Google Photos folder

  1. Check the box next to Automatically put your Google Photos into a folder in My Drive
  2. Click the "Done" button

Confirm Folder Creation

This final step can take anywhere from a couple seconds to several minutes - depending on how many photos/videos you have already saved to Google Photos. Just keep refreshing the page or check back later.

As you can see by the red box, a folder called "Google Photos" has been added to My Drive. Now you can search and sort your photos and videos as though they were any other file. Additionally, photos or videos that you had saved elsewhere on Drive can be now moved to this folder for ease of use with other services.

If you have video files saved to your Google Drive it is best to move them to the Google Photos folder because then they can be directly copied and much more easily uploaded to the YouTube editor.
