A URL is the address of a website or other file on the internet. It's what you type into the
address bar at the top of your browser.


Type "" into Chrome to go to the Google URL Shortner page

If the page that loads looks like the one below with a "Sign in" link at the top (circled below) it's best to click that and sign into your Google Account. You don't have to do this, but it makes things easier as you don't have to do the "I'm not a robot" test (yellow arrow) and Google will automatically save a list of the URLs you have shortened in case you need to look one up again later.


Shorten URL

Now that you're signed in:

  1. Copy and Paste or simply type the website URL you want shortened into the box below (I've used the address of a YouTube video)
  2. Click the "Shorten URL" button

On the right of the page you'll now see a much easier to share shortened URL as well as a preview of the page it links to (bordered in red).

You can then write this shortened URL down, paste it into an email, or share it any other way you chose.
