Step 13: Back to the Creator Studio - Final Checks and Security Settings Explained

From the YouTube Creator Studio, under "VIDEO MANAGER" there is a "Videos" link that will load a page with all the YouTube videos you currently have uploaded.

Note the icons on the right (three of them have been circled):

  1. Shows a Padlock. This means the video is set to "Private". Private videos can only be viewed by people you have shared them with. This is the most secure as you actively control who can watch it.
  2. Shows a Link. This means the video is set to "Unlisted". Unlisted videos can be seen by anyone that has the specific link or address to the video (eg. This is semi-secure as people need the know the link already to see it, but you can't limit the viewers yourself or stop others from unauthorized sharing.
  3. Shows a globe. This means the video is set to "Public" Public videos are not secure at all. They show up on YouTube for the whole world to see. Public Videos are bad. I'm going to leave you and go change that right now.
